Comparing NY Online Sportsbooks

It is easy to sign up for an account with all of these sportsbooks, but you will be asked for the last four digits of your Social Security number, along with a phone number and email address. This is for identity verification and to remain in compliance with laws set up by the NY State Gaming Commission.

Caesars

Caesars

Best for their reward program

The site’s URL has the name William Hill in it because Caesars is piggybacking on the site address of the longstanding European wagering company that it merged with. You will want to sign up for Caesars Rewards, which enhances Caesars cash bonus. This may be the best sportsbook for NY if you are a baseball fan, because Caesars offers prop bets including over/unders on the number of strikeouts by Major League Baseball pitchers.

As noted in the J.B. Smoove commercials, it is easy to make a Caesars withdrawal, which is a key part of the equation to be considered one of the best sportsbooks in NY. Making Las Vegas a preferred travel destination as part of its loyalty program is Caesar’s best differentiator. We especially like the odds format choice option. Works well for those who like traditional odds listings rather than plusses and minuses.

PointsBet

PointsBet

Best for the feature “Name a Bet”

This site's “Name a Bet” feature is a huge selling point. If you do not see a line on the contest you want to wager on, click on “Name a Bet” and a human in New Jersey or Nevada will research the bet that you want to make and give you a wagering line. PointsBet has a partnership with NBC Sports, which has a partnership with Telemundo, which televises soccer from Latin America.

This is advantageous for soccer punters because PointsBet will pay more attention to that market than many of the other books. PointsBet also focuses heavily on college and pro football, in part because of the NBC partnership with NBC broadcasting those sports. PointsBet also has an interesting blog filled with gambling news and information on topics such as PointsBet cash bonuses.

FanDuel

FanDuel

Best for bonus money

The site is very user friendly and features what is best described as copycat navigation because so many of the books have basically the same set-up. With everyone having similar navigation and layouts, it gives you the chance to comparison shop for the best odds easily. FanDuel is confident in what it offers, with a strong FanDuel NY promotion giving you a bonus bet of up to $1,000 when you sign up.

Also, because FanDuel has a well-established fantasy sports platform that many gamblers have used, there is a familiarity factor that helps it compete. FanDuel’s home page has three tabs at the top left: “Sportsbook” for sports gambling, “Fantasy” for fantasy sports contests and “Racebook” for wagering on thoroughbreds and harness racing horses from tracks all around the world.

WynnBet

WynnBet

Best for celebrity picks

These folks actually have a call-in number to speak to a live human at 855-627-4040, something other NY online sports gambling sites don’t have. So, if you prefer to get help by speaking to someone instead of live chat or email, WynnBet could be the best NY sportsbook for you. It also makes it much easier to get complicated problems resolved quickly, helping WynnBet provide a solid customer service for players.

Why the other books have not realized that personal communication is an intrinsic part of a good user experience is beyond our comprehension, so bravo to WynnBet. For all the talk about bonuses and cash bonus offers and sign-up bonus promos, a working phone number is a monster differentiator in determining the best NY sportsbook. WynnBet sign-up bonuses are easy to find - click on the picture of Shaquille O’Neal, and there is a bet $50 to win $200 offer.

DraftKings

DraftKings

Best for televised gambling advice

There are tabs on the top for fantasy sports, sportsbook and marketplace, the latter of which is a place for NFT sales, sports memorabilia auctions and exclusive content, something the other books do not offer. Again, this is what is known as a differentiator, and the memorabilia market appeals to an older demographic, which is one of the reasons why DraftKings’ TV advertisements often run during daytime television and on game shows popular with older folks, including Jeopardy!

One of the tricks to getting the most out of DraftKings as one of the best NY sportsbooks is to make sure you click all of the necessary buttons when trying to make a same-game parlay wager. These buttons are not as obvious as they should be, and Draft Kings offers different odds on same game parlays than on straight bets, steering clear of half-point lines on player props, which makes it more difficult to win. For example, there may be a straight bet on Steph Curry’s over/unders made of 4 ½, but in a same game parlay the choices are 3, 4, 5 and 6, making it more likely to push. DK is generous with DraftKings sign-up bonuses.

BetMGM

BetMGM

Best for ease of site navigation

A navigation bar along the top lists all of the sports that can be wagered on, along with promotions that are available, a bet history page and an A-Z Sports tab that lists all sports alphabetically. From a user interface perspective, it may be the easiest site in New York to use because of the speed of navigation.

Like Caesars, BetMGM offers discounted rooms at its premiere Vegas property, the MGM Grand Resort, and advertisements touting these offers are prominent at the top of the home page. BetMGM also tries to entice bettors with a number of pre-selected parlay bets for any night’s games, taking some of the legwork out of the equation for the gambler. This shows savvy, because a good portion of the gambling public looking for the best NY sportsbook wants to have action on a game but does not want to spend the time it takes to do the research. They are ahead of the curve from that perspective.

BetRivers

BetRivers

Best for a Game 7 profit boost

Also known as PlaySugarHouse, it was operating an onsite sportsbook at an upstate casino before moving into the online sports gambling business. Owned and operated by Rush Street Gaming out of Chicago, they went after a New York license because of their pre-existing operation at Monticello Race Track, where they run a sportsbook parlor.

What this site does differently is run a rolling scroll of “real winners” on the right side of the home page, touting users who have win streaks going. It would be nice if a user could click on those streaks to see what those bettors hit on, but that is a software development specialty that BetRivers will have to solve in-house. Navigation is straightforward with a funky font that’s nowhere near as fancy as what you would find on other sites. Feels like being in an online version of Fremont Street (old Vegas). Use the code 250MATCH for the best BetRivers sign-up bonuses.

BallyBet

BallyBet

Best for app fans

If you’re looking for a secure and safe app to make your bets, BallyBet might just be the one for you. NY players have been impressed by the customer support on offer thanks to the helpful phone line and support staff. This sportsbook is currently only available as an app which is great for bettors as it means they’ve put all their effort into making the best app.

You can bet on 12 different sports including fan-favorites like soccer, basketball and baseball. There aren’t that many promotional offers or payment options when compared with other sportsbooks, but that is subject to change. We think BallyBet is a great option for sportsbook rookies looking for an app to get started.

Resorts World

Resorts World

Best for live betting

Resorts World Bet is an impressive NY sportsbook with a high-quality site and app. You may be familiar with the brand as they have top hotels and casinos across the world, with one in prime position in the Catskills. This is a sportsbook with a healthy range of 13 sports to bet on with bespoke offers that are regularly updated. They even have UFC-specific bonuses if your player gets knocked out to keep things interesting.

Keep up-to-date with the real time world of sports through their Live and Streaming features and you won’t miss a beat. With the 24/7 live customer support chat you’ll be able to find help whenever you play.

Online sportsbooks coming soon to New York, and those who missed out

New York missed out coming soon

From Fanatics to NYC Barstool Sports to Bet365 to 888 Gaming to FoxBet to theScoreBet to PrizePicks to BetOnline, there were a number of sportsbooks who also formed a conglomerate and bid on one of the two licenses but did not get into the market. These companies will remain locked out of the New York online sports gambling market until January of 2032 when the current New York law expires. A number of offshores including Bovada, Sports Betting.ag and mybookie also cannot operate legally in New York and never will be able to.

This lockout was a result of only two licenses being put up for bid when three conglomerates of sports betting entities were pooling their resources to make their bids. One license went to an entity formed by DraftKings, MGM, Bally Bet and FanDuel; the other went to an entity formed by Caesars, Wynn, PointsBet, Rush Street Interactive (BetRivers) and Resorts World. Somebody had to lose.

There was a school of thought that Fanatics’ partnership with rapper Jay-Z would give them a leg up on the competition, but this came down to money, money and money. In hindsight, one of the smaller operators should have latched on to the spot taken by Bally Bet, which bought and rebranded all of the FOX Sports regional networks. Bally Bet’s lobbyists and attorneys are no slouches and knew who to team up with. New Yorkers who want to use operators who are not licensed in New York have to travel to neighboring states to wager with those companies.

Where can I bet on sports in person in New York?

There are 11 in-person sportsbooks in New York, none in the downstate region where the majority of the population lives – meaning sports betting NYC is exclusively online for now. However, these are the places where you can walk in the front door, go up to a window or kiosk and place a bet, then pull up a chair and watch sports.

Seneca Buffalo Creek

The only casino in Buffalo proper, Buffalo Seneca Casino sportsbook is a heck of a place to go and bet on a Bills game with like-minded fans. With sports gambling kiosks among the casino tables, it gives you lots of ways to play. You cannot say enough about the appeal of a sportsbook in a downtown area and how it attracts a crowd. The state will likely use Buffalo Creek sports book as a test case when deciding whether to push for retail sportsbook sites downstate, especially in Manhattan. In Europe, they are magnets for sports fans.

  • 1 Fulton Street, Buffalo, NY

Point Place Casino

Near Syracuse, a Caesars Sportsbook branded operation run by the Oneida Indian Nation covering 65,000 square feet with a casino-wide no smoking policy. It is the newest of the three Oneida casinos.

  • 450-452 NY 31, Bridgeport, NY

Turning Stone Resort and Casino

Run by Caesars, this is an especially good place to go if you are into golf. The Atunyote course played host to a PGA Tour event from 2007-2010. Casino is 100,000 square feet. Nearest city is Utica.

  • 5218 Patrick Road, Verona, NY

Yellow Brick Road Casino

Billed as the largest sportsbook in New York, this one is also close to Syracuse and is branded by Caesars. The name comes from the town being the birthplace of Frank Baum, author of the Wizard of Oz.

  • 800 W. Genesee St, Chittenango, NY

Del Lago Resort and Casino

This opened in 2017, a Seneca Nation casino midway between Syracuse and Rochester branded by DraftKings, which jumped on the opportunity almost three years before online sports gambling became legal.

  • 11333 NY-414, Waterloo, NY

Tioga Downs Casino and Resort

FanDuel branded this sportsbook, located west of Binghamton and just a few miles north of the Pennsylvania border. It was a quarterhorse track that operated for only three years and is not a casino. It is a “racino” with video lottery terminals.

  • 2384 W. River Road, Nichols, NY

Resorts World Catskills

The closest fully-functional casino within driving distance of the New York metropolitan area, it is called Sportsbook 360 because of the way a number of 72-inch TV screens are arrayed circularly.

  • 888 Resorts World Drive, Monticello, NY

Rivers Casino Schenectady

The address is a hint of who operated this sportsbook, the folks at BetRivers who are owned by Rush Street Gaming out of Chicago. Closest big city is Albany. It is built on the former site of the American Locomotive Company factory.

  • 1 Rush Street, Schenectady, NY

Seneca Allegany

One of the casinos owned by the Seneca tribe outside of Buffalo, all of which have the sports gambling kiosks located right in the gaming area rather than in a side space.

  • 777 Seneca Allegany Blvd., Salamanca, NY

Seneca Niagara

You cannot beat the view nearby, as anyone who has been to this tourist destination can attest (Word to the wise: The view of the falls from the Canada side is superior). Again, sports betting kiosks spread out among the table games.

  • 310 4th Street, Niagara Falls, NY

Sticks Sports Book at Akwesasne Mohawk Casino

The two closest cities are Ottawa and Montreal, which should give you an idea how northern this casino is. This is a casino where Canadians and people from Vermont can come to gamble. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
